From week 2, give an example of how today's western, American Church can be compared to Jonah's attitude of involuntary going.

various answers;

Self-centeredness: "Verkuyl believes Jonah is an example of the self-centered attitude of God's people...and through the Holy Spirit speaks to the Church today." The American church today can be very inward focused (me-focused), rather than outward-focused or be concerned about making God's name known among the nations.

Anger: "Jonah was angry God extended mercy to people beyond Israel, even though he understood that God's namesake was to be globally known as "compassionate and gracious" among all nations." The American Church particularly can understand this fact too, but still be angry when God chooses to move on behalf of the people who don't know Him yet.

What is the difference between someone being dutiful toward world evangelization and being faithful?

The dutiful perform what is required, and so they are sometimes daunted in the face of sacrifice. The faithful remain dedicated to the One who entrusts them despite the high cost.  Sacrifice is a light thing for them, because they have already entered into some of the joy of their Master, who commends them for being not only, good, but faithful.
