If they are not at the barrier please ask them to move to the barrier to have the conversation. Regardless of what they are asking, all interactions need to happen at the barriers for staff and patron safety.

A patron has to return a book club kit to the front desk because it won't fit in the book drop. What are the procedures to accept this item?

Staff must put on gloves to accept the item. Item is then put in the quarantine area for 72 hours before being checked in. If the item was put on the counter the counter needs to also be wiped down, as well as any other areas that the item may have come in contact with. Staff are to wash hands after removing gloves.

What scenario would prompt staff to print something for a patron instead of walking the patron through the printing process?

If the public internet printer is out or order we will print for patrons due to the special circumstances. Otherwise patrons should be printing for themselves. Any other exceptions need to be cleared with the supervisor.

A patron called in and is inquiring about his e-card expiring. What is the renewal procedure for e-cards?

Ask patron if they are strictly using online services or if they are wanting physical items. 

If they do not want physical items, renew the e-card for 6 months and let the patron know that they will need to come in after the 6 months to get a physical card. Verify all info on the account is correct before renewing. 

If they want a physical card let patron know they will have to come into the branch with their i.d to get their card.

A non library member needs to print 4 pages and only has a debit card to pay with. What are the cash procedures for this scenario?

A non library member requiring a staff override of under 3 dollars gets the printing for free. 


If it is over 3 dollars we take the debit payment and add the charges to the WK cash card as you normally would.

A patron wants to register for an online program that is happening virtually but doesn't know how to register for it. Can you register the patron? If yes what is the process?

Encourage patrons to register themselves if they can. Walk them through the process if needed. 

Go to E-vanced and register the patron for the specific event. Get info from patron on how they want to be contacted about the event etc.

If a patron is having difficulties with the computer and you are not able to help due to a lack of computer experience/knowledge by the patron, what can you ask the patron to do?
