Explain to the nurse that the area must be sterile in order to get accurate results on a blood culture. Chloroprep or Iodine must be used. The first set of cultures will have to be redrawn because they will be contaminated.

Explain to them that the blue tops must be filled to the line, and the specimen needs to be redrawn. You cannot mix blood from two different tubes. The anticoagulant balance will be wrong and it will affect the results.
