What part of a wave is letter A measuring?

Wavelength (m)

100

What equation can be used to find period (T)?

T = 1 / f

T = Period (seconds)

f = Frequency (Hz)

100

What color light has the shortest wavelength?

Violet with a wavelength of 400 nm.

100

What colors do the following fruits REFLECT?

A. Orange

B. Green

C. Red

D. Yellow

E. Purple

Are sound waves longitudinal or transverse waves? Choose one and draw the wave and direction it moves.

Sound waves are longitudinal waves and when matter vibrates in the same direction as the origin of the wave.

200

What part of a wave is B measuring?

Period (Seconds)

200

What equation can be used to find frequency (f)?

f = 1 / T

f = Frequency (Hz

T = Period (seconds)

Why are X-rays more dangerous and harmful than radio waves? Your answer should include the following terms: energy, wavelength, frequency

X-rays have a shorter wavelength and higher frequency therefore they have more energy.

Radio waves have longer wavelengths and lower frequencies therefore they have less energy.

Are light waves longitudinal or transverse waves? Choose one and draw the wave and direction it moves.

Transverse! Waves move up and down at a right angle to their point of origin.

200

Sound travels the fastest through which of the mediums below?

Solid! There is more matter for sound waves to move through.

The medium determines the speed of a sound wave.

300

What part of a wave is C measuring?

Amplitude (m)

300

If the frequency (f) of a wave increases, what happens to the period (T)?

The period (T) will DECREASE because they have an INVERSE RELATIONSHIP --> As one of them increases, the other decreases.

What is the frequency of the following waves:

A. Infrared

B. Ultraviolet

C. X-Rays

A. 1012 Hz

B. 1016 Hz

C. 1018 Hz

Which of the following glass combinations should be used in a pair of blue light glasses?

BONUS: Which of the following should NOT be used in blue light glasses?

because red/green glass absorbs blue light and transmits red and green light.

Bonus: C because blue glass transmits blue light instead of blocking.

300

Why is this version of Star Wars more scientifically accurate than the original version?

Sound cannot travel in space because space is a VACUUM meaning there is no MATTER meaning sound does not have a MEDIUM to travel through.

Find the following values using the graph:

1) Wavelength

2) Period

3) Amplitude

1) 15 meters

2) 6 seconds

3) 30 meters

If a wave has a frequency .9 Hz, than what would the period (T) of the wave be? INCULDE UNITS

T = 1 / f

T = 1 / .9 Hz

T = 1.11 s

You have a friend that tells you they are worried about the radiation from their cell phone and the negative effects they have on the body. This same friend goes to LA tan and uses a tanning bed 3 times a week.

Explain to your friend why they should be more concerned about the radiation from the tanning bed than from their cell phones using evidence from the EM spectrum below.

Tanning beds use UV light which have a wavelength of 10-8 meters and a frequency of 1018 Hz.

Cell phones use radio waves that have a wavelength of 10meters and a frequency of 104 Hz.

Longer wavelengths have a lower frequency meaning they have less energy. Shorter wavelengths have a higher frequency meaning they have more energy. Therefore, UV light is more damaging than radio waves.
