What is physics?
The study of energy, matter, and how they relate to each other.
What is electricity?
Electricity is the movement of electrons to create an electric current.
What does opaque mean?
Something opaque, such as Venetian blinds, blocks light from passing through.
What is sound?
Vibrations in the air that our ears and brain interpret as sound.
What is potential energy?
Potential energy is energy stored in an object that can be converted into another form.
What is force?
A push or pull on an object.
What do conductors and insulators do?
Conductors permit electrons to pass through, while insulators do not.
What does transparent mean?
A transparent object, such as glass, allows light to pass through.
What are decibels?
Decibels are a measure of volume, or the intensity of a sound wave.
What is kinetic energy?
All moving objects possess motion energy, or kinetic energy.
What is Newton's First law of motion?
Something in motion or at rest prefers to stay in motion or rest (unless another force acts on it.)
Explain the difference between a series and parallel circuit.
Series circuits have all the loads connected in a row. Parallel circuits give each load their own separate sub-circuit.
What are the colors of a rainbow in order?
Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet.
Explain the frequency of sound waves and what difference it makes in the sounds we hear.
The frequency of a sound, measured in hertz, is how high pitched the sound is. The higher the frequency, the higher the pitch.
What is the Law of conservation of energy?
All energy is neither created nor destroyed.
What is Newton's 2nd law of motion?
A force causes an object to change speed or direction and that change is resisted by the mass of the object.
What three things does an electrical circuit need?
Wires, load, power source
What is the Law of Reflection?
The angle of incidence = the angle of reflection.
What is an echo?
An echo is when a sound bounces off a surface, making it audible for longer.
What are fossil fuels? Give 3 examples.
Fossil fuels are energy sources, such as coal, oil, and natural gas, created by living things that died long ago and are buried in the earth.
What is Newton's 3rd law of motion?
Every action force has an equal and opposite reaction force.
What does it mean when a circuit is open or closed?
An open (off) circuit has no electrons flowing through. A closed (on) circuit allows electrons to pass.
Name three kinds of lightbulbs.
CFL, incandescent, fluorescent, LED...
Explain infrasound and ultrasound.
Infrasound and ultrasound notes are too low pitched and too high pitched, respectively, for humans to hear.
What is renewable energy? Give three examples.
Renewable energy (such as hydro, solar, wind, nuclear, etc.) are infinitely renewable sources of energy.
