Which Chapter would you join?

Remain neutral; redirect the conversation toward what she is looking for; explain how each sorority is unique in their own way

100

A PNM starts crying. What do you do?

Listen and give her space to explain what she's feeling.

100

TRUE OR FALSE: It is okay to say "I don't know if you genuinely do not know the answer."

TRUE

I'm really nervous about going into my next event

Reassure her that it's normal to be nervous, ask what specifically she's worried about, and help her feel prepared without influencing her opinion of the chapter

200

Why didn't this sorority invite me back?

I know that can be really disappointing, especially if you felt like you connected with them. Unfortunately, I don't know why a chapter made a specific decision, so I don't want to give you incorrect information. But I'm happy to talk through how you're feeling!

200

A PNM says, "I don't think I belong here." what do you do?

It's completely okay to feel overwhelmed and second-guess the process. Do you want to talk about what's making you feel that way?

200

My roommate says Chapter ABC is the best. Do you agree?

Don't confirm or disagree with the roommate's opinion. Remind the PNM that what works for one person may not be the same for another.

200

My friend told me that if I don't get invited to Preference Night by my top choice, I should just drop.

Listen to her concerns and remind her that another person's recruitment experience or advice doesn't have to determine hers. Encourage her to make decisions based on her own experiences and feelings.

300

I heard ____ has a terrible sisterhood. Is that true?

“Everyone has different experiences within a chapter.  What did you think of the girls you talked to?”

300

A PNM is overwhelmed and doesn't understand the recruitment process

Listen, explain the process, answer questions you know, clarify next steps, and/or connect her with someone who can help.

300

"Which chapter do you think I'd fit into best? What should you do?

Don't choose a chapter for her. Instead, ask what qualities she is looking for and what she has enjoyed about each chapter.

300

A PNM is standing alone at an event and looks uncomfortable.

Approach her, introduce yourself, and ask how she is doing. Help her feel comfortable without steering her toward a particular chapter.

400

Promise me I'll get a bid somewhere

You cannot promise an outcome. Reassure her that it's okay to feel nervous and support her through the process.

400

A PNM is upset because her best friend received different invitations than she did. What should you do?

Remind her that everyone's recruitment experience is different. Validate her feelings without comparing PNMs, chapters, or recruitment outcomes.

400

"Everyone else seems to have a chapter they love, and I don't." what do you say?

Everyone's recruitment experience is different. Don't pressure her to feel a certain way or tell her which chapter she should like.

400

I'm just going to rank my chapters based on which ones have the prettiest girls.

Don't shame or lecture her. Ask questions that help her think about what actually matters to her in a sisterhood, such as values, relationships, involvement, or the overall feeling she had during events

500

Why didn't I get invited to Preference Night at the chapter I really wanted?

Acknowledge that the PNM is disappointed, but do not speak for the chapter.

I know that's really disappointing, especially if you were hoping to visit them for Preference Night. I don't know why the chapter made that decision, and I don't want to give you incorrect information. Let's talk about how you're feeling and what you're looking forward to with the invitations you did receive.

500

A PNM says, “I didn't get invited back to the chapter I wanted, and now I don't know if I even want to continue.” What should you do?

Listen and acknowledge that she is disappointed. Don't pressure her to continue or tell her which chapter she should choose. Help her process what she's feeling; talk through the opportunities she does have.
