Do you remember this crash:

1988 Iran Air Flight 655 Crash

Date: July 3, 1988

Cause: Missile fired by United States Navy

Deaths: 290

The destruction of Iran Air Flight 655 happened during the invasion of Iran by neighboring Iraq. The United States supported Saddam Hussein in his campaign against the Iranians, stationing naval vessels in the Persian Gulf to offer support and protect oil shipping lanes. On July 3, 1988, the USS Vincennes had been exchanging fire with Iranian ships in the gulf when Flight 655 took off from Bandar Abbas International Airport. Confusing the commercial airliner for a military aircraft, the Vincennes fired two missiles at the flight. Everyone on board was killed, and Iranian officials believed the attack to be a purposeful assault on civilians. The incident is still remembered in Iran and is one of the reasons tensions between Iranians and the US government remain so high today.

In what year did this happen?

Air India Flight 182 Bombing

Cause: Terrorism

Deaths: 329

Over 300 people were killed, 280 of which were Canadian citizens, when a bomb detonated aboard Air India Flight 182 while en route from Toronto to London. The plane came down off the coast of Cork, Ireland. Inderjit Singh Reyat, a Sikh extremist, was the sole person connected to the bombing to be tried and convicted. Reyat was a member of a Sikh separatist group run by Talwinder Singh Parmar, and it is likely that he worked in tandem with the organization to commit the bombing. The attack was the deadliest terrorist attack in the history of aviation until the events of September 11, 2001. Reyat was released by Canadian authorities in 2016 after serving 20 years.
