Roles & Niches

100

The main "food-making" part of most green plants.

What is a leaf?

100

An animal, like a bee or butterfly, that moves pollen.

What is a pollinator?

100

All the living and nonliving things interacting in one area.

What is an ecosystem?

100

The original source of almost all energy in an ecosystem.

What is the sun?

100

The special job or role an organism has in its home.

What is a niche?

200

The chemical in leaves that helps the plant trap sunlight and FILLs it with green color.

What is chlorophyll?

200

The part of the flower where pollen is made.

What is the stamen?

200

One living thing.

What is an organism?

200

Organisms, like plants, that make their own food.

What is a producer?

200

A creature that eats only plants.

What is a herbivore?

300

A gas that plants breathe out and humans breathe in.

What is oxygen?

300

The part of the plant where pollination occurs and seeds are made.

What is the flower?

300

A group of the same kind of living things in one area.

What is a population?

300

Animals that must eat plants or other animals for energy.

What is a consumer?

300

A creature that eats only other animals.

What is a carnivore?

400

The 3 "ingredients" a plant needs to make its own food.

What is sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide?

400

Two ways pollen can travel besides being carried by animals.

What is wind and water?

400

Things like air, water, and soil that are not alive.

What are abiotic factors?

400

These overlap to show how all food chains in an area connect.

What is a food web?

400

What happens when two animals need the same food or space.

What is competition?

500

The food that a plant makes for itself that provides energy to itself.

What is sugar?

500

Describe the process of pollination using the words petals, pollinator, nectar, stigma, pistil, stamen, pollen, seed.

The pollinator is attracted to the petals. When it goes to drink to the nectar, it gets pollen on it from the stamen. Then it goes to another flower to drink nectar. The pollen then gets on the stigma that is on the pistil. There it turns into a seed.

500

All the different populations of biotic factors living together in one place.

What is a community?

500

What type of organism has the most amount of energy in a food web and what type of organism has the least?

What is a 1. a producer and 2. a consumer?

500

This happens to an animal's niche as it grows up.
