100

WHAT DOES NPC STAND FOR?

NATIONAL PLUMBING CODE OF CANADA 2020.

The National Plumbing Code of Canada (NPC) 2020, developed by the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes and published by the National Research Council of Canada, sets out technical requirements for the design and installation of new plumbing systems, as well as the extension, alteration, renewal and repair of existing plumbing systems.

WATER CLOSETS SHALL BE PROVIDED WITH A ______ - ___ ________ ON THEIR WATER SUPPLY PIPE?

SHUT-OFF VALVE

DIVISION B 2.6.1.3.4)

200

TRUE OR FALSE?

VENTING SYSTEMS FOR DRAIN PIPING, NEUTRALIZING TANKS OR DILUTION TANKS CONVEYING CORROSIVE WASTE SHALL EXTEND INDEPENDENTLY AND TERMINATE OUTDOORS.

TRUE.

DIVISION B - 2.5.5.3.

200

200

The slow movement of the valve disc near the full-closed position results in high-fluid velocities, causing scoring of seating surfaces, referred to as:

Wire Drawing. It also causes galling of sliding parts.

200

WHAT IS NON-POTABLE WATER?

WATER NOT FIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION.

Non-potable water is not treated to drinking water standards and is not meant for human consumption. Non-potable water, such as raw (untreated) water from reservoirs, is used for irrigation and other purposes, in addition to recycled water (highly-treated wastewater).

200

WHAT DOES ASHRAE STAND FOR?

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE /ˈæʃreɪ/ ASH-ray) is an American professional association seeking to advance heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) systems design and construction. ASHRAE has over 50,000 members in more than 130 countries

300

WHAT DO THE ABBREVIATIONS "BG" AND "CW," STAND FOR?

- BATHROOM GROUP

- CLOTHS WASHER

300

WHAT IS AN EXAMPLE OF CLEAR-WATER WASTE?

WATER DISCHARGED FROM A:

1. DRINKING FOUNTAIN

2. COOLING JACKET

A cooling jacket, also referred to as a flow generator, ensures that there is always sufficient water flow across the motor surface in order to cool the motor. In a typical well installation, the pump is surrounded by the walls of the well. The motor is installed below the pump.

3. AIR CONDITIONER

4. RELIEF VALVE (HWT)

300

WHAT ARE SEISMIC RESTRAINTS AND DESIGN?

Seismic Restraints are elements designed to keep nonstructural components from moving during earthquakes. Each seismic restraint includes 3 main components: Connection between the Restraint and the Nonstructural components. The Seismic Restraint main element.

2.1.4.1.(1) AIMS TO HELP ENSURE THAT PLUMBING SYSTEMS WILL REMAIN IN PLACE FOR A SUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF TIME DURING AN EARTHQUAKE TO ALLOW FOR SAFE EVACUATION OF THE BUILDING.

300

THE TEMPERATURE OF WATER DISCHARGING FROM A SHOWER HEAD OR INTO A BATHTUB SHALL NOT EXCEED ________ DEGREES C?

49 DEGREES C or

120 DEGREES F.

(IN HEALTHCARE FACILITIES AND SENIORS' RESIDENCES IT BECOMES 43 DEGREES C.)

400

OH HEALTH

SANITATION: AN OBJECTIVE OF THIS CODE IS TO LIMIT THE PROBABILITY THAT, AS A RESULT OF THE DESIGN OR INSTALLATION OF THE PLUMBING SYSTEM, A PERSON IN THE BUILDING OF FACILITY WILL NOT BE EXPOSED TO UNSANITARY CONDITIONS. NAME 2 OF THE 4 UNSANITARY CONDITIONS ADDRESSED IN THE CODE?

OH2.1 - EXPOSURE TO HUMAN OR DOMESTIC WASTE.

OH2.2 - CONSUMPTION OF CONTAMINATED WATER.

OH2.3 - INADEQUATE FACILITIES FOR PERSONAL HYGIENE

OH2.4 - CONTACT WITH CONTAMINATED SURFACES.

400

WHAT TYPE OF GLOBE VALVE IS USED FOR BOILER BLOW-OFFS AND SERVICE WHERE MUD, GRIT AND /OR VISCOUS FLIUDS MAY BE ENCOUNTERED?

Y pattern globe valves are used as an alternative for the high pressure drop inherent in standard globe valves. The Y type design reduces the flow resistance of the globe valve to a minimum.

400

Who (What Industry and Applications) uses ball valves?

Name three?

They are commonly used in industries such as petrochemical, water treatment, HVAC, and pharmaceuticals, breweries, fertilizer plants. Low Maintenance: Ball valves require minimal maintenance because of their simple design.

400

NAME TWO METHODS FOR SUPPORTING UNDERGROUND PIPE?

1. SAND, CRUSHED ROCK, OR FIRM EARTH ROCK.

2. LAYER OF CONCRETE.

3. FIRM EARTH WITH A BELL HOLE.

4. CONCRETE ENCASEMENT.

NOT ALLOWED - UNSTABLE FILL WITH PIERS, PLANKING OR BOULDERS.

DIVISION B - A-2.3.4.6. (1)

400

WHEN A HANGER OR SUPPORT FOR COPPER TUBE OR BRASS OR COPPER PIPE IS OF A MATERIAL OTHER THAN BRASS OR COPPER, WHAT MUST BE DONE?

IT SHALL BE SUITABLY SEPARATED AND ELECTRICALLY INSULATED FROM THE PIPE OR TUBE.

BONUS QUESTION FOR DOUBLE OR NOTHING!

ELECTROLYSIS

What effect does electrolysis have on metal?

Also known as galvanic corrosion, electrolysis happens when two dissimilar metals are directly connected causing the lesser of the two metals to corrode. For the process to occur, the two metals have to also come into contact with a conductive electrolyte.

500

WHAT ARE THE FOUR STATED OBJECTIVES OF THE NPC?

500

What's the difference between wet and dry venting?

A wet plumbing vent drains water from one fixture while ventilating the air, among other fixtures. On the other hand, a dry vent only transports air and does not carry water. This is to say that wet vents may drain one fixture and vent another, whereas dry vents typically vent air from a single fixture at a time.

500

HOW SHOULD EVERY LENGTH OF PIPE AND EVERY FITTING BE IDENTIFIDED?

HAVE CAST, STAMPED OR INDELIBLY MARKED ON IT THE MAKER'S NAME OR MARK AND THE WEIGHT OR CLASS OR QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT, OR BE MARKED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RELEVANTSTANDARD.

INDELIBLY - that cannot be erased, blotted out, eliminated, etc.; permanent; lasting.
