She will later meet a boy from Flint who one can infer is not able to read or obtain an education based upon his mannerisms. Deza is thankful despite the many obstacles she faces daily due to racism.

One could argue that Deza may not have loved school if it wasn't for this character interaction. Provide details. 

What is Ms. Needham? This character provided Deza with advice. Deza used this advice when entering a new, hostile realm. Although she was treated unfairly, she was still able to find positive things about school. In addition, she treated others, such as Loretta and the boy from Flint, with kindness and respect.
