Why is the use of personification effective in My Country? What are we encouraged to imagine, think or feel? Provide one example from the poem.

The poet personifies Australia by using words like "she" and "her". By doing this the reader gets a feeling that Australia is not just a lifeless piece of land, "she" is in many ways similar to a human capable of "beauty", "terror" and "love".

Example: "her beauty and her terror"; "All you who have not loved her, You will not understand"
