The Boy and Leaf

A. Gautam

(In which line does the author use personification in this poem?)

 The boy held in his hand a leaf
that he regretted plucking
Because he could not put it back
He sat at the tree’s feet

The boy sat thinking for a while
As more leaves had fallen
Up on the branches, he heard a bird
Gently, softly singing

The boy was happy as he looked
At each branch and fruit
He left to plant a hundred trees
and smiled, and smiled, and smiled

He sat at the trees foot

Fall

A. Gautam

Which line has an example of onomatopoeia?

    The fall has come back after all
    with a bang and a boom
    My backpack explodes in my room
    Hello uniform, and goodbye overalls!

5 The closing sign is on the swimming pool
   Outside my window, the night air is cool
   Mother has put away the frozen treats
   And just like that, another school year repeats

The Railway Train

Emily Dickinson

What kind of figurative language is represented in the first two lines of the poem?

1 I like to see it lap the miles,
And lick the valleys up,
And stop to feed itself at tanks;
And then, prodigious, step

5 Around a pile of mountains,
And, supercilious, peer
In shanties by the sides of roads;
And then a quarry pare

To fit its sides, and crawl between,
10 Complaining all the while
In horrid, hooting stanza;
Then chase itself down hill

And neigh like Boanerges;
Then, punctual as a star,
15 Stop -- docile and omnipotent --
At its own stable door.
