When gauging a tank, how much fuel-finding paste is applied to the tape and bob and at what height mark is it applied?

2.1.11.2. Apply a thin coat of fuel-finding paste to the numbered side of the gauge tape approximately 3 inches above and 3 inches below the estimated product depth

100

At what temperature is the Base Fuels Laboratory to be maintained and why?

1.3 TEMPERATURE CONTROL
Maintain Base Fuels Laboratories at a temperature of 73° ± 5° F (23° ± 3° C). Large temperature fluctuations adversely affect laboratory equipment and fuel samples. This could cause inaccurate analysis of fuel properties and allow issue of contaminated fuel to aircraft

100

What is the boiling point of liquid oxygen?

1.1 DESCRIPTION AND PROPERTIES OF
OXYGEN

Solid oxygen turns into a liquid at its melting point and remains in this state until the temperature rises to its boiling point, −297°F (−183°C).

200

What organization provides flying schedules and promptly notifies the FSC of any schedule changes?

Aircraft Maintenance

200

When multiple refueling trucks are located on the same side or wing of an aircraft, the vehicles must be positioned at the aircraft prior to initiating any fuel flow and remain positioned and bonded until _________________.

Fuel flow is terminated on all trucks on that side of the aircraft

200

During a fillstand operation, when will the operator perform the high-level precheck (shutoff)?

2.1.16 Truck Fillstand-Bottom Loading

(f) Refueling unit operator will perform a high-level precheck operation within the first 500 gallons of fuel received

200

What does FSII stand for and what is its purpose?

BONUS 100pts: What is the chemical name for FSII?

2.3 FUEL ADDITIVES

Fuel System Icing Inhibitor (FSII) conforming to MILDTL-85470 is added to aviation turbine fuels to lower the freezing point of small quantities of free water in fuel. This has no effect on the actual freezing point of fuel. FSII is identified as Diethylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether (Di-EGME)

200

What are the three different types of inert solids?

1.10 INERT SOLIDS

Particulate Matter, Moisture, and Carbon Dioxide

300

What ranks qualify for FARP?

MSgt and below

300

During hot defueling operations, what is the preferred distance between aircraft wingtips? What can it be reduced to at installations where aircraft parking is limited?

Chapter 4: AIRCRAFT SERVICING

50ft

35ft

300

For hydrant servicing, when is the operator initially required to visually inspect the pumphouse/manifold and what are they looking for?

BONUS 100pts: After initial inspection, at what frequency will the operator inspect the pumphouse while it is being utilized?

2.1.20 Hydrant Issues to Aircraft or Refueling Unit(s)

e. (1) Ensure a hydrant system pumphouse/manifold visual inspection is completed to verify the DP and ensure there are no leaks, weeps, or seeps within 20 minutes from the start of a servicing operation, and at least once every hour thereafter while the system is being utilized

300

What are the two purposes of a filter separator?

Coalesce water and remove particles

3.4 FILTERS/FILTER SEPARATORS (F/S)

(2) As the fuel passes through the elements, small droplets of water that may be suspended in fuel are coalesced into large droplets. Since the openings of the coalescing elements are very small, removal of fine particles also occurs. Fuel then passes through a water repellent media, such as Teflon-coated screen, to prevent coalesced water from being discharged with the fuel. The separated water drops to a sump or removal through a manual drain valve.

300

For an Odor Test, approximately how much liquid should be poured into the 400mL beaker?

200mL

400

When it comes to tool kits (TK), who ensures they are properly marked (i.e. etched, sampled, labeled, or tagged)?

6.8.6. TK custodians are responsible for managing an effective tool management program

400

How often must a pressurized serviceability inspection be done for an R-11 refueler?

Chapter 7, Introduction

(b) Once every 24 hours or when returned to service after maintenance.

400

What inspection form is used to inspect the hydrant system?

BONUS 100pts: How long will the completed forms be retained for?

3.1.3

Inspection Guide. Base fuel systems will be inspected using the AFTO Form 39.

3.1.5 Files.

The completed AFTO Form 39 will be retained by FM for a period of 3 years IAW AFI 33-322, Records Management Program. AFTO Forms 39 may be kept on file longer than 3 years if required to support more stringent environmental mandates.

400

How long must a tank settle after a receipt and why?

3.7 PRODUCT SETTLING.

(a) An 8-hours settling period (at a minimum) is required after receipts to allow for accurate inventory and settling of water and particulate matter prior to product issue. The LRS/CC may authorize the FMT to deviate from the settling time requirement (not applicable to JPTS) when mission parameters prevent an 8-hour settling time. Every effort shall be made to meet the settling time requirement, however, the tank shall be allowed to settle for a maximum amount of time as mission requirements allow.

400
