Who is considered the VULNERABLE POPULATION:
What is: Persons who are at higher risk for complications from influenza include; people with chronic lung disease, diabetes, heart disease, history of stroke, weakened immune systems, neurological disorder, cancer, intellectual disability, pregnant women, adults 65 and older, children younger than 5 but especially children younger than 2 and people with extreme obesity (body mass index (BMI) of 40 or more). Flu vaccination is especially important for these individuals and anyone in close contact with them.

ANNUAL INFLUENZA IMMUNIZATION PROGRAM
IMMUNIZATIONS:
Staff, Volunteers, Students, and LIP’s will be provided access to influenza immunization at no cost.
FOR PATIENTS:
Nursing and medical staff will be notified by the Infection Control Officer or designee that the influenza vaccine is available to administer
For ALL current and newly admitted patients, a Nursing Order will be entered in the EHR by Charge RN to educate and offer influenza vaccine weekly until vaccine is given or contraindication is established
