“Threat Outside Lockdown" means that the threatening person has not yet entered the building - center must take immediate action to lock all means of entry into the building. Many times as it relates to violence in the workplace, someone knows the intruder/armed shooter.

In the formal harassment free workplace procedure, how would you handle it if your supervisor or management were involved in the harassment, bullying or discrimination?
If the supervisor is involved in the harassment, bullying or discrimination, reporting may be to the location’s management. If the location’s management is involved, reporting may be to the regional vice president. Any report to a supervisor triggers the responsibility of the appropriate party (a supervisor, human resources and/or location management) to begin an investigation.

If there was an armed intruder/active shooter in the building, it would be important to announce overhead what? Why?
Announce over paging system the code word / location of the situation. “THREAT INSIDE LOCKDOWN / DINING ROOM (for example)” repeat announcement several times, giving the location of the intruder, if known. “Threat Inside Lockdown” means that there is already someone in the building attempting to cause harm. DO NOT lock exterior doors as this will impede law enforcement when they arrive on the scene. We announce overhead to alert others to get to safety.

If an employee believes that he/she is being harassed, bullied or discriminated against and desires to informally resolve the issue...
The employee should clearly and immediately notify the offending party that the behavior is unwelcome. If the employee does not feel comfortable confronting the offender or if the message to stop the offending behavior is not effective, the formal procedure may be followed.

When would you hide from an armed intruder situation?
If you are unable to safely leave the building, attempt to hide in a nearby room, that is capable of being locked from the inside, as possible. If the door does not have a lock, attempt to barricade the door with furniture, etc., and remain very quiet. Shut off TVs and radios and set cell phones on vibrate / muted. TRY NOT TO hide under a desk or anywhere else that may impede your ability to move about or escape if necessary, unless there is nowhere else to go. Hiding under desks has proven to be ineffective. Remain quiet and hidden, until authorities give an “ALL CLEAR.”
