A Thane would stick by their lord's side, often receiving gifts, and had great status and protection. A slave's life consisted of laboring and having absolutely no freedom.

What did gear represent?
Gear represented status and identity of the wearer, such as their rank. Higher valued items belonged to higher ranks. Intricate designs also signaled a higher rank.
What happens if a dispute was not settled?
Due to an unofficial establishment of law enforcement, if a dispute was not settled, families would seek revenge. These blood feuds could last for many generations.
