A polynomial with two terms
Binomial
Write the polynomial correctly
3x^2 - x + 1
(4y + 3) + (y - 2)
5y + 1
x^2 - 10x + 24
(x-4)(x - 6)
Why is a polynomial with a single term called a "Monomial"?
Mono means one.
The sum of the exponents of the variable in the monomial
Degree
Describe and correct the error.

Wrong factors.
(t + 6)(t + 8)
(y + 10)(y - 5)
y2 +5x - 50
9x^2 - 100
(3x - 10)(3x + 10)
What kinds of math operations are terms separated by?
Addition and Subtraction
A number, variable, or product of a number and a variable.
Monomial
The area in the dancefloor is:
8x^2 + 22x + 5
What is the height and width?
(4x + 1)(2x + 5)
(x + 7)(x - 7)
x^2 - 49
8y^2 - 24y
8y(y - 3)
Why does "factoring" refer to division?
Because the factors of a product are the numbers that it is divisible by.
When a polynomial is written in descending order from largest degree to smallest.
Standard Form
Write a polynomial that represents the volume of the shape
x^3 + 16x
(x^4 - x^2 + x) - (-9x^2 + 7x -12)
x^4 + 8x^2 - 6x + 12
8m^2 + 30m + 7
(4m + 1)(2m + 7)
What does x3/2 mean? Use a radical in your answer.
sqrt(x)^3
A polynomial with five terms
Polynomial
You design a wooden poster frame and paint the front surface. Write a polynomial in standard form that represents the area of wood you paint.
8x + 28
(2x - y)^2
4x^2 - 4xy + y^2
x^4 + 2x - 24
(x+2)(x-2)(x^2 + 6)
Why is
y/2
a monomial, but
2/y
is not?
Because a monomial can be a product but not a quotient. While y/2 can be written as multiplication: 1/2 times y
2/y can not be written without having the variable being the divisor.
