How is net migration calculated?

Immigration - Emigration = Net migration

200

Is the RATE (the speed at which it is happening) of world population growth expected to increase or decrease in the future?

Decrease. Death rates have gotten lower as countries have become more developed. Birth rates are also lowering as well.

Give an example of a technology that affected a population by allowing people to make environments more livable.

Ex. Irrigation systems in the California desert allow dry but fertile soil to produce crops.

500

Does Australia have high, medium, or low population density? Explain why.

Australia has low population density because vast areas of Australia's interior desert are completely uninhabited or support only tiny populations. Most of the north is tropical rainforest where few people live. Australians largely occupy only the eastern edge and the southern corners of the continent. Five cities alone hold half of Australia's population.

500

most favorable: fertile agricultural land, abundant natural resources, water - coastline and rivers, city sites

least favorable: mountains and infertile soils, scarce natural resources, extreme climate conditions (desert, polar), isolated locations
