100

A model that shows what eats what in and ecosystem.

Food Web or food chain

100

What does the arrow represent on a food web?

The direction of the flow of energy.

100

Who is the leader of the Whiskers group?

Flower

100

What are two possible ways a population could increase in size?

Rise in birth rate or decline in death rate.

100

The more energy storage molecules available to a population, the more the organisms in that population can do this.

Reproduce

200

A population that eats organisms from another population.

Consumer population

200

Why does every food web contain at least one producer?

They are able to make their own food from the sun's energy.  This provides food for the rest of the organisms in the ecosystem.

200

What is the name of the neighboring group that competes with he whiskers for territory?

The Lazuli family.

200

What is the resource population for the leatherback turtle?

Moon jellies
200

With in a population, organisms always do these two things.

are born and die

300

The result of one cause leading to an effect at causes one or more other effects.

Indirect effect

300

How are Food chains and Food webs different?

Food chains show one path for energy, while food webs show all possible paths.

300

Why does Flower not want her kids to have pups?

Flower wants all of the available resources for her pups.

300

What is the consumer population of the kelp?

Sea Urchins

300

Give an example of a food chain starting with a producer and having 4 trophic levels.

answers will vary

400

A population that is eaten by organisms from another population.

Resource population

400

Describe what a tertiary consumer is.

Consumer that eats the animals that eat the animals that eat the plants.

400

How was Shakespeare described in the first episode?

Courageous

400

How would a decrease in the walleye pollock population impact the moon jellies?

The zooplankton would increase with fewer walleye to eat them. This would lead to an increase in moon jelly's since they would have more ESM and higher birth rate.

400

In North America, both bears and eagles eat trout.  The size of the populations have been able for the last 9 years, but recently the size of the eagle population decreased.  What will likely happen to the bear population and why.

It will increase. There will be more ESM available to the bear population because they are competing less for food.

500

The process of creating offspring.

Reproduction

500

Where does all of the energy originate in an ecosystem?

The sun.

500

What is it called when scientists observe and record data in nature but do not intervene.

A case study.

500

What is the producer in the Glacier sea food web?

Algae
500

Scientists have been studying the size of three populations in a grassland.  In this ecosystem, lizards eat fireflies and fireflies eat gnats.  The data showed that all three populations were stable.  Then the lizard population decreased suddenly.  What will most likely happen to he size of the firefly population as a result and explain why.

The firefly population will increase because there is a smaller lizard population that will need fewer ESM (eat less) from the fireflies.
