When do ED patients require a Covid swab or RPP

Can a patient be sent from the ED to the floor with a RPP pending?

Resp PCR is not required for asymptomatic patients. If an order is placed for a patient that is not symptomatic patient can still be transferred to the room as stipulated by the Infection Prevention and Control team

No Swab is required for:

  • Fever with no respiratory symptoms
    Isolated GI symptoms - vomiting/diarrhea

  • Any other swabbing would be at the discretion of the ED provider as part of their work up but not required for admission and it should not delay admission if the inpatient team chooses to order one outside of these requirements.
