When a writer inverts syntax by changing the grammatical order of a sentence, it: draws the reader’s attention to a particular part of the sentence, helps visualize/hear/feel the situation, creates a rhyme or stress pattern to ensure the iambic pentameter, and amuses the reader by creating unexpected.
