Can a TABE be completed during pre-enrollment?
Sometimes - only if you are testing for basic skills deficient eligibility.
When it's appropriate to administer the TABE prior to enrollment:
A referral does not meet criteria for Dislocated Worker, is not on public assistance or low income and they do not have higher than a HS diploma or HiSET.
When it's NOT appropriate to administer the TABE prior to enrollment:
- They do not have a HS diploma or HiSET as this already meets BSD definition
- They have degree higher than a HS diploma or HiSET as this meets basic skills efficient
- They are ELL by observation of CP, enrolled in ELL course, etc.
- They meet other eligibility requirements such as Dislocated Worker, on public assistance or low income

If OBA & IEP are NOT completed within 30 days of enrollment and you have had communication with participant, create a 106 Career Counseling activity and write a progress review CN.
If OBA & IEP are NOT completed within 30 days of enrollment and you have NOT had communication with participant, don't open any activity and write a progress review CN.
Why is it important to be thorough during the OBA process?
It helps understand what can be done to help the participant in the best way possible.
True or False: The only activity that should be entered before IEP is complete is OBA (and a 106 Career Counseling in certain situations).
True - no training or career services should be entered before the OBA and IEP are complete.
A 106 Career Counseling will only be entered if the OBA and IEP are not complete within 30 days after enrollment. Reason being is an initial 30 day review of progress is required.

Individualized - complete an OBA & IEP. Customized career planning. Funding can be utilized. May be helping to upskill through training services, work preparation, individual counseling, etc.
Basic Career Services - no OBA or IEP. No funding can be utilized. For those that have the skills to get a job but may need a little extra guidance. Examples: Resume building, job search and placement, mock interviews, etc.
How recent does the TABE have to be completed in order to use it in your OBA?
