Your binder will be issued to you so you can take notes and keep your written work together. It will be cleaned and stored in your homeroom.

It will not go home so that any germs on it are not transferred to your home and so that you do not bring germs from home into the classroom.

Hair covering your face, hands covering your face, your shirt covering your face  . . . all look like you are not paying attention.  You need to get in the habit of becoming a great student and that takes a whole face.

There are three categories that are included in your weekly grade: Quizzes/Tests, Classwork, and  . . .

Why?

What is participation?     There are quizzes or tests weekly. Classwork is a grade that measures if you are taking notes, turning in papers, and completing DO NOWS every class. Participation is volunteering to be called upon, allowing other students to answer but staying ready, paying attention.  These are all measures of your success as a student.

Only you should touch your own face mask. That will help keep you safe by not having contact with other students' germs.

You will be given an assigned seat.

The assignment of your seat is at my choosing. Sometimes you may be asked to move into a different chair because I am trying to get the best classroom participation and some students may need to separate so they are not disruptive.

What is your hair?

A bad habit is twisting or playing with your hair while in class.  It is distracting to you, and usually indicates you are not listening fully.  PLUS, girls do not like it.  We want all teachers and all girls to like you!

It is distracting to the education process to have someone moving around; everyone's eyes are on that person. Limited movement helps keep everyone focused.

More ones mean that you are not making an effort to correct your behavior.  Ones also mean you are interrupting the educational process as you are having to be corrected again and again.

We will be using Chromebooks in school more and more to cut down on passing of items in the classroom.  We need every one in working order.

The DO NOW  or Bell Ringer is a review procedure that allows the classroom to get quiet immediately and focus on the work at hand. It allows the teacher to distribute supplies and check in with students individually without a lot of supervision.

Part of successful classroom behavior is to learn to get along with everyone.  In addition to being unkind, it takes up valuable instruction time.

If you miss a class for ANY reason, you are expected to do this. Why?

Ask to make up the quiz.

You know when you have missed a quiz (usually given on a Wednesday or Thursday). If you go a week without turning a quiz in, you will be given a failing grade for that quiz. It is your responsibility to track this.

What is a binder?

Binders will have a section for each class.  Handouts will be organized by class so they are always ready if you need them for review.  Organized students are usually the most successful students, and we are preparing you for high school and college or advanced education.

I cannot grade un-named papers.  You should get into the habit of putting your name (properly capitalized) on every piece of paper in school so you get the credit you deserve.

Singing, rapping, beat boxing, talking to yourself are not allowed for the following reason.  Why?

What is a distraction?

Although you may sing, rap, beat box, make noise and still focus, you are creating a classroom distraction.  Every distraction keeps us from being successful at learning the most math we can.

Doing very poorly on a quiz can be corrected by what behavior. Why?

What is asking to re-do the work or be given a second chance or staying after school for some extra help?

Grades are important, but it is more important to me that you LEARN whatever it is we are studying. I will give you a second chance if you are making a genuine effort to complete the work the first time.
