A student says that they are too busy to speak on the phone and to email instead. How do you respond?
Let the student know that phone communication is a required part of our process and explain the value. eg How a phone conversation can help them know if they are making the right decision.
A student says they are still weighing their options and aren't ready to go over transcripts at the end of an interview. How should you respond?
Build value in being able to make a more informed decision once they know where they stand with admissions requirements as well as program cost and timeline.

A student has a 5-9 job and lets you know this in the interview. They want to keep working during the program. What are two questions you could ask the student here to better understand their plan?

How to you intend on keeping the work life balance?
If you reach a point where you cannot balance both school and work, what would you do?
Student is between OTA and OT. How would one problem solve with the student to help them to better understand what they need as well as where we rank on their list of options?
Ask the student their understanding of the difference between OTA and OT.
Figure out exactly what it is that they want to do in the OT field and the ROOT of their motivation to do so.
Figure out how convos with other programs are going and seek to understand if we are a backup option or top contender
A student does not want to apply because they do not know what fafsa would cover. How would one problem solve through this?
The student needs to apply to see what FA may cover. Encourage them to do so, ask open ended questions and talk about the application being free etc

A student says they are not prepared to start a full-time accelerated program due to time commitment. What are some questions one could ask/responses one could give to problem solve?
It is very possible that you will have prereqs or core classes remaining. These are done fully online in semesters leading up to the OTA program. They are worked into the same degree track.
How would you feel about just doing some fully online classes while things slow down?
A student does not want to apply because they are between us and another school. How does it benefit them to go ahead and apply while they decide/wait on a decision from the other school?
They need to know if STK is even an option while they wait/deliberate.
How does the finance conversation differ interview vs prelim and prelim vs admit call?
The interview is a brief convo about the cost per credit and the student's rough plans as well as encouraging filing FAFSA.
In the prelim we begin to paint the picture more by better understanding what options are available to students and their understanding of those options and set an action item
In the admit call we go back to the plan from prelim and talk more about shortfall in particular. We see what a student has left to do with planning. This is also when timeframe expectations can be set for finance action items.

A student is worried about a doing summer vs fall in the prelim. How could an adviser still motivate this student to get in an application for summer while the student deliberates?
Examples:
Let student know app is free to do and we will try to order transcripts for them
Remind student that they don't even know if STK is for sure an option yet and motivate them find out
What is a way you can organically bring up competition in the interview, prelim and admit call?
Interview: What other schools are you checking out?
Prelim: How do these requirements compare to other schools you are checking out?
Admit call: What other admissions decisions are you waiting on?
A student has never used loans before but is going to look into private lenders. What are three questions you could ask the student about this to help you understand and to help them prepare and plan?
Example:
How familiar are you with private lenders and what that means?
Who in your life would co-sign for you, should you need it?
How realistic do you think it is to get 2-3 lenders you may go with together before our next call?

Role play with another adviser on the team. A student is about to drop for summer due to being too busy. Problem solve to the best of your ability with the student.

Bring students motivations back into the conversation
Talk about lengthening the plan and going a class at a time
Role play with another adviser on the team. A student brings up the cost difference between STK and their local community college. Problem solve to the best of your ability with the student.

Example:
Bring in the student's motivations and needs. (eg if they needed flexibility ask about how flexible the other program is)
Ask how many starts the school has and how many students they take at a time
How do their admission requirements compare to ours
