Levels of Measurement
100
An investigation of one or more characteristics of a population. Most of the time, surveys are carried out on people by asking them questions.
What is a Survey
100
Occurs when an experiment cannot tell the difference between the effects of different factors on the variable.
What is a Confounding Variable
100
Consists of attributes, labels, or non-numerical entries.
What is Qualitative Data
100
The collection of all outcomes, responses, measurements, or counts that are of interest.
What is Population
100
Qualitative Only. Data at this level are categorized using names, labels or qualities. No mathematical computation can be made at this level.
What is Nominal Level
200
The use of a mathematical or physical model to reproduce the conditions of a situation or process
What is a Simulation
200
A technique where the subjects do not know whether they are receiving a treatment or a placebo.
What is Blinding
200
Consists of numerical measurements or counts.
What is Quantitative Data
200
A subset, or part of a population.
What is a Sample
200
Qualitative or quantitative data. Data at this level can be arranged in order, or ranked, but differences between data entries are not meaningful.
What is Ordinal Level
300
They observe and measure characteristics of interese of part of a population but does not change existing conditions.
What is an Observational Study
300
Neither the experimenter nor the subjects know if the subjects are receiving a treatment or a placebo.
What is a Double Blinding Expiriment
300
Quantitative data that can be measured. It has an infinite number of possible values within a selected range. Ex: temperature range
What is Continuous Data
300
The branch of statistics that involved using a sample to draw conclusions about a population.
What are Descriptive Statistics
300
Can be ordered, and meaningful differences between data entries can be calculated.
What is Interval Level
400
A researcher deliberately applies a treatment before observing the response.
What is an Experiment
400
Occurs when a subject reacts favorably to a placebo when in fact the subject has been given a fake treatment
What is The Placebo Effect
400
Can be numeric, like number of apples. But can also be categorical, like blue or red; male or female.
What is Discrete Data
400
Branch of statistics that involved using a sample to draw conclusions about a population.
What is Inferential Data
400
Similar to data at the interval level, with the added property that a zero entry is an inherent zero.
What is Ratio Level
500
No treatment is applied to this.
What is a Control Group
500
Subjects are assigned to different treatment groups through random selections.
What is a Completely Randomized Design
500
The practice of collecting and analyzing numerical data in large quantities.
What is Data Classification
500
A numerical description of a population characteristic.
What is a Parameter
500
A zero that implies “none”.
What is Inherent Zero
