Who is the physician?
Three pieces of equipment needed during procedural sedation
What is Bag Valve Mask, oxygen source, suction source, crash cart, bp monitor, pulse ox, cardiac monitor, reversal agents? etc
Stable and within 20% of baseline reading for 2 consecutive readings
What are vital signs?
Able to communicate/respond to verbal commands. Unaffected ventilatory and cardiovascular functions
What is Minimal or Light Sedation?
Minimum interval VS are obtained post last dose of medication
What is every 5 min x3 then every 15 min x 2?
Must have current BLS and ACLS
Who are nurses and physicians?
Maximum dose is 1mg

Score of 0 or at pre-procedure baseline
What is RASS?
Only to be used by an anesthesia provider, unless the patient is already intubated and has stable airway protection
What is Deep Sedation?
The initial intervention to be performed on a patient with moderate sedation who becomes unresponsive and whose oxygen saturation begins to drop

Consulted for patients who are at risk for losing protective reflexes during procedural sedation

Number of staff necessary when sedation administered by non-anesthesia provider

Score of 8 or at pre-procedure baseline

Not easily awakened. Repeated painful stimulation may produce a minimal response

Filled out immediately for any unexpected outcome or adverse event?
What is an Event Notification or Midas entry?
Completes a pre-procedure assessment including vital signs, weight in kg, oxygen saturation, EKG and pain level
Who is the nurse?
Performed prior to the start of any medication before a procedure with all staff present
