Which classrooms can have tacks?

NONE

I'm struggling with a child in my classroom and I need to meet with the parents. Can you set that up for me?

No, unless it's a conversation that requires admins presence that is something you need to facilitate.

100

I'm running 10 minutes late, should I even bother saying anything?

Yes please :) Walking in 10 minutes late without saying anything does not suffice. We love an ETA!

A parent approaches you asking questions about their child moving classrooms / age groups, what should you do?

Please direct them to admin

When is it developmentally appropriate for children ages 0-5 to be placed in time-out while in our care?

Never! What you can do is require them to take a body break if their behavior is unsafe to themselves or to others (whether that's in the classroom or in the office), but no children can be intentionally left out due to bad or unwanted behavior.

3. Disinfect

Children are coming in very quickly in the morning and I'm alone. What should I do?

Immediately call for help! Pick up your walkie and let your manager on site know what's happening and what you need.

200

I'm not going to be in today, should I just text whoever's opening?

No :( Please text us BOTH regardless of who's day it is to open/close.

200

A parent needs to meet with me, when should I tell them I'm available?

During nap time please! This will allow us to have enough coverage in your classroom while you meet with a family :)

200

Do the kids need to take their water bottles outside with them?

Yes please! Licensing requires that children have access to water at all times. When the water fountain outside is working, this is not necessary. Until then, please either carry the buckets their waters are kept in when you go outside, or have the children carry their water bottles outside on their own.

A child hits their head on accident. There is no visible mark, but it was a bit hard and you are worried about the child. Your supervisor is unavailable. What should you do?

Go to the child's file and make a call to the parents. Let them know what has happened and monitor the child. If they are showing signs of a concussion, call the parents back or call 911 if necessary.

300

It is the end of my shift and we are two kids over. I can not find my supervisor. What should I do?

Call to another classroom and ask if they have room for two children. Mark where the kids are going and make sure to communicate before you leave.

300

I have a something going on next month and I need time off, when should I put in the request?

As soon as you know you will need the time off

300

I do not have the materials I need for my lesson plan. My co-teacher says we should just skip the activity. What should I do?

Tell your supervisors! We can get materials ordered. We should not be skipping any parts of our lesson plan or schedule.

A child in my group is struggling with table time. They are not engaged and disrupting the group. What should I do?

Try a different activity for them. Maybe give them a sensory toy to hold on to. Place them directly next to you during table times so you can be more available for them. If need be, send the assignment home with parents and indicate that it was not completed.

400

My co-teacher is raising their voice and rough with a child. It is making me uncomfortable. What should I do?

Intervene immediately. Ask the teacher to step back so you can help. If they need time out of the classroom, call. Then, report to your supervisor. If necessary, speak with them about making a report.

400

I am opening and there are children from other classrooms arriving. Their teacher does not come in until 8am. What should I do?

Combine classrooms and start a name to face until that teacher arrives.

400

I need to schedule an appointment and they said they have an opening tomorrow. Should I just book it?

No :( Any time off request requires at least 2 weeks in advance. Do not book appointments or vacations without checking that you're okay to have that time off.

400

A parent begins gossiping with you about one of your coworkers. What should you do?

Stop the conversation politely. We are a team and this would not be professional to engage in. You should follow up by speaking to your supervisor.

400

A child's behavior is worsening and the other parents are beginning to approach me. What should I do?

Go to your supervisor and ask if a success plan is possible at this time. Begin documentation and present it when you meet. Make sure you are communicating with parents on BOTH ends when physical behaviors are happening.

We laid the children down for nap time around 12:45pm. One student has had a really rough day. I don't want to reward him with a napper toy. It is now 1:15pm and he's getting loud and disruptive. What should I do?

Items are REQUIRED to be given out to children not sleeping after 30 minutes. If he is physically harming himself or others, remove him. If he is being disruptive, give him something to do! A book, a puzzle, something. It is required.

500

I'm fighting with my partner at home, and I had a rough night. The children are very loud and chaotic. I don't want to do anything today. Is that okay?

First, communicate with your co-teachers and supervisor what' going on. If the environment is too much, ask to go home. Do not take the stress on to the kids or let it impact their scheduled day.

500

I have not been putting forth my best effort and am skating by in the classroom, but I show up. I call off maybe a few times a month and showing up to late very frequently. I want a raise because I've been in my classroom for a year What is that going to look like?

Raises are based on your OVERALL performance. Your supervisor is required to look at the larger picture, including but not limited to, attendance (TARDIES AND CALL OFFS), job performance, and work ethic.

500

You have concerns about your coworker or overhear an issue going on that was said to you. What should you do?

Go to your supervisor directly. If there are any issues with a coworker, the best course of action is asking your supervisor and making a plan/course of action together.

500

Assessments are due soon. How can I complete this for all the children in my group successfully?

Through play and other parts of your schedule! You should be OBSERVING the children, not completing formal tests. This is the most accurate way to see where the kid's development is.
