These are the States of Matter.
What are "solid, liquid, gas, and plasma"?
There was a lab experiment that led to only a "state of matter" change. What are the 2 substances used in the experiment?
What are "sugar & water"?
When you melt candle wax, is this a physical or chemical change?
Physical
A campfire burning.
Exothermic reaction
This is the smallest fundamental unit of matter.
What is an "atom"?
Shell will sink.
This is the name of the tool we used to pick up the steel wool.
What are "tongs"?
The color, length, volume, mass, opacity, etc are examples of Physical or chemical properties?
Physical Properties
Boiling water to make steam.
Endothermic reaction
This is the term that describes the amount of space an object takes up. NOT the weight of it.
What is "volume"?
This is the formula you use to find density, using volume and mass.
What is "density = mass/volume"?
This is the name of the gas that was produced when we mixed baking soda and vinegar together.
What is "carbon dioxide"?
When a candle is lit, this is the part of the candle that is actually on fire. (aka what is the "fuel" of the candle?)
What is the "vaporized wax"? NOT THE WICK
Ice melting in your hand.
Endothermic reaction.
This is a type of reaction that releases energy from the system in the form of heat. (aka the chemical reaction is giving off heat).
What is an "exothermic reaction"?
This is an example of the state of matter "plasma".
What is "Aurora Borealis, lightning, neon signs, etc"?
There was an experiment where heat was produced, making it exothermic. What are the two materials used in this experiment?
What are "steel wool and vinegar"?
Copper conducts electricity.
Physical
Water freezing into ice.
Exothermic reaction
This is the term used when a solid changes directly to a gas, skipping the liquid phase.
What is "sublimation"?
Describe the difference between "states of matter" and "properties of matter". Short explanation..... I will go around and check your answers.
States of Matter: what state a substance is in (physical state of being)
Properties of Matter: characteristics of a substance such as color, if it's acidic, if it's toxic, etc.
Why did soaking the steel wool in vinegar cause it to rust? Short explanation... I will go around and read your answers
Vinegar dissolved the protective coating on the steel wool. The pure steel wool was then exposed to oxygen in the air which led to oxidation and rusting.
Digestion of food.
Chemical
Dry ice turning into carbon dioxide gas.
Endothermic reaction
This is the term used when a gas turns directly into a solid, skipping, the liquid phase.
What is "deposition"?
