Sanctuary is partly based on the work of Dr. Stephen Silver (1986) He found that soldiers returning from this famous US war were experiencing hostility, anger and rejection from their communities in addition to the trauma they had experienced on the battlefield, finding that home - place they expected to find sanctuary -was toxic instead.
