Active listen. Refer to student life (online or in person) walk them over to Emily or Stephanie, connect them with their RA or URec. Validate and refer to Personal Counseling if warranted.

A student disclosed to me that their professor told her that her "top was to low", implying it was distracting or wrong of her to wear it. You disclosed right away that you are a mandated reporter. She does not want it reported- she is worried about the outcome! What do I do?

Reinforce that you have to report when you hear of misconduct, it is the law. Reassure! No action can be taken against her. Active listen. Refer to Megan, Wellness Center (or Pro Staff if needed). Educate on Avalon and First step.

I am walking to my room in Shiple near 2am and a student is stumbling trying to get to their room, eyes glazed over, holding onto the wall to walk. I am worried abut their safety. What do I do?

Assess the situation. Approach, question, and assess Call Pro Staff Duty Phone. Stay present. Continue to assess. Keep track of times and people present as the situation moves on. Write a Maxient report.

A student is throwing up in the Shiple bathroom, her friends are with her- giggling loudly, slurred speech, not walking straight. It is 10 am on a Monday.

A UDM student, also a friend, is having a hard time with their mental health. It sounds scary and like they are struggling. I listened but they will not walk to the Wellness Center with me when I asked. What do I do?

Active listen. Can report through the BIT Team for further investigation. If worried about the immediate well-fair of the student, call Wellness Center (M-F 10-4). Pro Staff after hours. Or Public Safety anytime.

Start by disclosing you are a mandatory reporter. Explain what that means. If they want to share more, active listen. Walk to Megan Novell or Wellness Center. Contact Pro Staff or if student refuses to seek help here connect with Avalon or First Step. REPORT on Maxient.
