The daily playground check must be completed before the children go outside. GSI recommends completing the playground inspections before 9 AM.

What information are the teachers required to have in the classrooms?

The teachers must have access to the child allergy list, child no-photo list, and child password list. The CPR and first aid list must be accesible in all classrooms. The director must update each form every month and provide it to the classroom teachers.

Are sandboxes permitted?

GSI permits Schools to have small sandboxes with small quantities of sand if the sandboxes are located away from the building and pour-in-place. The sandboxes must be covered when they are not in use to prevent sand contamination.

How should a crib be labeled? 

Each crib should be labeled with one child's first and last name or first name and last initial.

All refrigerators and freezers in the School must have thermometers in them.

The teacher must have the attendance list and a first-aid kit with bandages, gloves, and tissues.

The teacher should follow the process for using the wash, rinse, sanitize, and air dry bins before returning the learning materials to the interest corner.

If the child brings his lunch in a glass container, is the School allowed to reheat the lunch in the microwave?

If a child brings lunch in a glass container, the School can reheat the lunch in the microwave. The teacher must transfer the heated lunch to a plate or bowl before serving it to the child. The child should not receive lunch in the glass container. The teacher should place the empty container in the child's lunch bag.

This does not apply to baby food in glass jars. Baby food in glass jars must never be heated in a microwave.

May trash cans have swinging lids, or do they need hands-free lids?

All trash cans must have lids. The lids can swing or lift open. A best practice is to use only hands-free lids. 

*Some states require all trash cans to have hands-free lids. Please follow your state guidelines.

What should you do if the playground gate alarms are not functioning?

The playground gate alarms must work. If the alarm is not working, no one can use the playground until the alarm works again. The gate alarm must be repaired. Teachers are required to report broken gate alarms to the front office.

Do teacher need to wear gloves when they handle breast milk?

Yes, the teachers must wear vinyl or latex gloves on both hands when handling breast milk.
