The test is 74 questions (47 MC and 27 written). If you only have 2 class periods to complete the test, how many questions should you aim to complete on the first day?
74 / 2 = 37. I would aim for a little more than that on day 1, so I know that i will have enough time to finish.
identify one abiotic factor in a desert ecosystem and explain how this abiotic factor would affect snakes in this ecosystem.
water, heat, sand, sun, etc.
Answers vary.
mitochondria. Respiration. This process provides energy for organisms to perform daily functions.

Molecule A can diffuse through cell membranes and Molecule B cannot. What is different about Molecule A and B?
Molecule A is small and Molecule B is big.
What's the term for the number of organisms that an area of land can sustain over a long period of time?
carrying capacity

Certain aquatic plants contain a greater concentration of calcium inside their cells than there is in the seawater surrounding them. The energy required to maintain this concentration difference is most closely associated with which organelle?
mitochondria

Slide A looks normal because it's in dynamic equilibrium. Slide B is shriveled because water is moving out of the cell from high to low concentration via osmosis.
What are some ways you can use the test to help you figure out the answers?
Sometimes other questions and answer choices contain the answers to other questions. Be on the look out for these clues! (Ex. use MC questions and answers to help you answer written responses that are about the same topic)

grasses because they get their energy directly from the sun, they are at the bottom of the food chain and energy decreases as you go up the food chain because more and more energy gets lost as heat to the environment.

1. autotrophs
2. All living things
What is the function of your ribosomes?
to make proteins
*Picture 5*
simple diffusion (movement from areas of high concentration to areas of low concentration).
When you see a question with bullet points, what should you do?
Your answer should be in bullet points, specifically answering each bullet point.
What is ecological succession? Tell me about the 2 types. Describe the biodiversity throughout the process.
Succession is the series of progressive changes in an ecosystem over time after a disturbance. Primary starts on bare rock. Secondary starts on some soil. Biodiversity starts out very low and ends very high.

bottoms of leaves. Gas exchange for photosynthesis and transpiration (water loss).
What are 2 functions of a cell membrane?
regulating what can come in and out of the cell, protecting the inside of the cell, providing support for animal cells, receives chemical messages from other cells

X will be amber bc starch cannot diffuse through because its too big. Y will be black because when iodine mixes with starch it turns black.
What are 4 general test taking strategies you should use?
cross out answers that are definitely wrong to narrow it down, mark any questions that you are unsure of so you can go back and double check them at the end, use the test! it usually contains clues that will help you, underline exactly what the question wants from you (a process, a substance, 2 abiotic factors, etc.), double check your scantron bubble sheet is filled out correctly
Describe the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem stability. And explain why.
As biodiversity increases, ecosystem stability increases because there are more food options. If one species goes extinct or migrates, there are other species around to fill that space and the other species will not be as affected.
Where does most of the mass of a tree come from?
carbon dioxide in the air
*Picture 9*
1. Ribosome - makes proteins
2. Nucleus - stores DNA, control center
3. Mitochondria - makes energy
4. cell membrane - regulates what comes in and out of cell

The test tube would be purple/black.
