The hardware does the work (like processing data, storing information, output to the peripherals) while the OS manages the resources and gives us a user friendly way to interact with the computer.

Folder structures are used to organize data within the computer. They are also known as folder hierarchies or folder directories.

What is a hardware peripheral?
Hardware peripherals refer to devices that are connected to a computer or other electronic device, but are not considered part of the device's core components.
What is the User Interface? What is the Graphical User Interface (GUI)?
The User Interface is how the user interacts with the computer. A GUI is menus, buttons, and graphics to interact with. (A Text Based User Interface is the Command Line). This makes it easier to give the hardware instructions without writing thousands of 1's and 0's!
What is the Root Directory?
The Root Directory is the first directory on the hard drive, commonly referred to as the topmost or highest directory.
The root directory in windows is C:.

There are several options available when saving a file. Which option overwrites the original file?
Save. Save As creates a separate copy and does not overwrite the original, whereas Save just overwrites the existing file.

What is a device driver?
A device driver is software that allows the OS to interact with a specific hardware device. It translates the machine language of the device to something we can work with.

What is the purpose of the motherboard?
The motherboard is the backbone that ties the computer's components together at one spot and allows them to talk to each other.
The OS provides us with a file system. What piece of hardware DIRECTLY relates to the file system?
The hard drive. The hard drive is where all the data (including the OS itself) is permanently saved. The file system shown in the OS is showing us what is saved on the hard drive.

Digital media software is software that is used to manipulate and edit media files, which allows us to enrich and explore our creativity.

The ability to understand, comprehend, and be competent in all knowledge of the digital / technological realm.
What does the CPU do?
The CPU, or central processing unit, is the brain of a computer. Its primary purpose is to execute instructions and process data. The CPU controls most other computer components and performs arithmetic and logical operations, as well as control logical input/output operations.
What exactly does "manage resources" mean?
An operating system will schedule applications for the processor (CPU), prioritize applications, and manage what programs are using RAM.
What must an operating system provide?
A user interface, a platform for apps, and a file system.
What are some reasons for software crashes? What is the first method of troubleshooting the issue?
Reasons for crashes include overloaded RAM, out of date software, or viruses.
The first troubleshooting method is to restart the computer. This will clear the RAM, start the OS fresh, and check for and update software. This solves 2 out of three potential causes of crashing.
