Who can carry Naloxone? 

Anyone can carry and use Naloxone. We recommend training before administration however if you suspect that someone has OD-ed, the 911 operator can guide you through the process

Do you HAVE to do CPR if you give Naloxone? 

CPR should be given only if the person is not breathing or gasping for air. 

Naloxone kits come equipped with mouth guards and gloves to protect the user.

What are some preventative methods to Hep C?

Do not share needles or other equipment that could lead to blood cross contamination. 

Alternatively, if you suspect that you have Hep C, do not use needles

Also, unsafe tattoos, razors, toothbrushes and sometimes fighting

How can you overdose on opioids? 

Consuming more than your body can handle may cause an overdose. Other ways may include, sharing substances with others without knowing what is mixed. Buying at a street level from an untrusted source. Buying from a trusted source who has not been transparent with the customer - or unaware of mixed substances.

What does Opioid Agonist Treatment do? 

OAT is a long acting intervention that can help block the opioid receptors within the body which can reduce the experience of withdrawal symptoms

What are some symptoms of overdose? 

Slow, irregular or no breathing, pale and clammy skin, drowsiness, lack of oxygen

What happens if you narcan someone who does not need it? 

Generally naloxone does not have any effects unless the person has taken opioids.

How does the intake process work? 

Fill out initial paperwork with front desk, complete a urineanalysis, meet the counsellor for some intake forms, meet the doctor and potentially get a dose the same day. 

We recommend that you call in to ask what day is good to come in as a new patient - we will try to accomodate you if there are certain timelines that need to be met.

Symptoms include fever, headache, jaundice and dark urine

What are some reasons people get addicted to opioids? 

There are multiple reasons, some examples include, being in pain - physically and or mentally.  Individuals may take pain medication for an injury and experiencing withdrawal symptoms once they are done, requiring them to get street level substances to manage the symptoms. 

Some people do substances for recreational purposes, peer/partner pressure, boredom, and environmental influences.

What areas of the body is it recommended to administer Naloxone? 

Upper legs, buttocks and upper arms are recommended as they are bigger body parts. Easiest would be the thigh - this can be done through clothing

What do you do if you're infected with Hep C? Should you get the vaccine? 

Trick Question - No vaccines exist for Hep C.
