What is Phonemic awareness?
Phoneme awareness is at the sound level of phonological awareness. The understanding that words are made up of segments of our own speech.
ch and tch
use ch after a vowel team (beach), a consnant- n (bench) r controlled vowels (birch)
use tch after short vowel sounds: pitch, patch, catch, scotch
Phonological awareness is ones sensitivity to the sound structure of a language at the following levels: word, syllable and sound.
Phonemic awareness is only the sound level, NOT WORDS or SYLLABLES

y as e when it is a multi syllable word: candy, baby
y as i in a one syllable word: cry, try, fly
3 ways phonemic awareness is important
helpful in developing alphabetic principal
