In addition, Mike has partnered with outside sources like the ROCC multiple times to promote mental health awareness.

What is RA Mike's most positive experiences as being in an RA?

The fun interactions Mike has with fellow RA's and residents. The small conversations about Survivor or favorite ice cream flavors, etc.

Everything Mike has learned about how to approach Res life has been a combination of Mike's life philosophy and other staff members. 

LRA Mary has had a huge impact on how I view the role of a student staff member.

Mike has helped many staff members over his tenure with residential life with both professional and personal issues. 

An example may be helping RA Julie respond to an incident or helping Julie with personal matters.

What are some things Mike likes to do in his free time?

Mike enjoys a plethora of activities/hobbies ranging from hiking, swimming, beach days, road trips, roller skating, ice skating, walking, running, watching tv, watching youtube, watching movies, going to eat, hanging out with pals, sunrises, sunsets, Monopoly, traveling, taking naps, baking, video games and playing with Keeper (my cousin).

What is Mike's relationship with the entirety of Philippi hall residents?

Mike has built great relationships with not only his floor but many other residents that reside in the building. 

Mike really enjoys the residents that live in Phillipi as he feels it is a good mix of independent, kind individuals. 

Mike also believes that there should be a prioritization with not only Philippi hall residents but with residential life as a whole and commuting students

What have been Mike's hardest experiences as a residential life member?

Mike has dealt with many difficult conversations with residents about staying in school or taking a break from school.

Luckily for Mike, Mike has not had to respond to title 9 incidents and crises but feels he has the skills to be in these situations.

How has Mike's experience as an AM and RA helped contribute to his understanding of the res life dynamic?

Mike has a good understanding of both the role of academic mentor and resident assistant which helps him be very knowledgeable about many resources around campus.

What has Mike found challenging about being a resident assistant?

Mike has found some difficulties in maintaining a healthy balance between work, school, and social life. Mike does a good job at staying ahead but still feels the stressors from these aspects of life. 

The good news is over time, Mike is learning to be better at managing his responsibilities and stress level

Mike will explain.

What is a program that you can create for suite/apartment residents?

Mike has only lived in upper-class halls and feels he greatly understands this population. He has already come up with great programs in the past for these populations.

Mike thinks it is important to not underestimate the different cultures that differ from Philippi to Upperclass hall to Portland Commons.

Things people can have, bracelets, aromatherapy bottles, etc.

In what ways has Mike contributed to building a cohesive staff?

Mike strives to be a peacemaker and likes harmony within the staff dynamic. Mike can tend to get anxious and overthink things when there is a lack of stability.

Mike has worked well with numerous RAs and AMs and never had any major problems with staff members. Mike is capable of communicating his worries, concerns, etc., with his staff members.
