What is a Weekly Projection?

A lesson plan to explain our emergent curriculum- what we will be learning about and why we are learning about it (i.e. why the students are interested in a certain topic)

What is the Magnus app?

The app with questions about your child's health regarding COVID-19. We need to see the green GO sign before entering the classroom.

What are the different Engine speeds?

Our engine is our body and like a car it can move fast, medium, or slow.

Do children need to sleep during rest?

No, but they are expected to be quiet and rest their bodies. If needed we will listen to audiobooks during rest.

What is emergent curriculum?

Curriculum based on what children are most interested in. Teachers observe children's play and dialogue and take notes that guide our lesson planning.

What will happen if someone in the Rainbow room needs to quarantine?

They will Zoom in to circle time, story time, and lunch. Distance learning activities will be created and shared via Seesaw.

What is CDT?

NCRC's Child Development Team- our Guidance Counselor (Ms. Judith), Occupational Therapist (Ms. Julie), and Speech-Language Pathologist (Ms. Lea). They not only come to the classroom but parents can always reach out to them with any concerns or questions.

What will we be doing for children's birthdays this year?

Families may Zoom in to read a favorite book or two with the class.

What is snack time?

A bite to eat before lunch! *Please label your child's snack or keep it in a separate bag so we know what is their snack and what is their lunch. Thank you!*

What is a play-based curriculum?

NCRC's curriculum based on play! We are focused on building a solid foundation of social emotional skills first. Children are exposed to academic skills like pre-reading and pre-writing skills on a daily basis.

How often must children be tested for COVID-19?

Once a week (either at NCRC on the weekends or elsewhere)

What is Listening Larry?

A visual we use to promote Whole Body Listening- listening with our feet, hands, ears, eyes, and mouth during circle time.

What time is rest?

Rest is from 1:30-2:30.

Why do families send in a spare set of clothes?

In case of accidents or spills. We will send a note home if your child needs more clothes at school (that are weather appropriate). Thank you! *Also, if your child's backpack ever comes home with something that is not theirs, our apologies! Please send it back with a note and we will return it. We try our best to monitor belongings but slip-ups sometimes happen! Putting names on everything helps :)*

How many clean masks should your child bring to NCRC each day?

3-5!

What are End of Year goals?

Preschool goals in six categories (fine motor, gross motor, social emotional, communication, self-help, and cognitive). We will give an overview of how your child is performing in each area during Parent-Teacher Conferences.

What will Mi Casa look like this year?

Ms. Nadine will "push in" to the classroom once every two weeks. She will lead small groups during free play.

What time is lunch?

Lunch is from 12:15-12:45. Also, just a reminder that NCRC is a nut-free school :)

What are the centers in the Rainbow room?

Building carpet, dramatic play, light table, sensory table, art center, puzzle and game table.

Where can children have a fast engine? What can children do if their engine is going fast inside?

Children can have a fast engine on the playground. If their engine is going fast, they can take a volcano breath, take a walk, drink some water, do a yoga pose, or take a break in the cozy corner.

What does music look like this year?

20 minutes of music in the outdoor classroom with Ms. Elizabeth every week.

Can children bring toys to NCRC?

Unless we are having a specific sharing day, we ask that toys and umbrellas stay at home. We don't want them to get lost or broken at NCRC or end up in another child's backpack. Thank you!
