Humanist views on Funeral Rites
Non-religious funerals may contain music, poetry, reminiscences about the dead, candles and moments of quiet reflection. The service shows respect and love for the person without suggesting they are going to a better place. It is a celebration of their life and way to say goodbye.

Christian beliefs on Euthanasia
Christians do not agree with euthanasia because of the sanctity of life. • Suffering is part of God’s plan; he would never give us more than we can bare. • The taking of human life is banned in the 10 Commandments. • They would suggest that hospice care is a real alternative to euthanasia. • Liberal Christians would allow the turning off of a life support machine if the patient is brain-dead, as this would be prolonging death not life.
• Some Christians believe in a Just War. • A Just War must meet certain criteria: • War must be a last resort, • war can only started and controlled by a leader of state, • war must have a just cause, • the aim of a war must be to bring about good, • innocent civilians should not suffer, • once evil has been conquered, war must stop. • Old Testament contains stories of people going to war. Jesus never condemned soldiers; he actually praised a Roman soldier.
Humanist views on Sanctity of Life
• Humanists do not believe that life is god-given or holy, but they do believe that life is precious. • As they do not believe in an afterlife they believe life is special as it is the only one we’ll get. • They believe we should respect human life and take the opportunity to increase the happiness of ourselves and those around us.
