Use these to organize and show data in rows (x) and columns (y).
Data Table
How do you know which graph/table to use, after reading a question?
Look for scientific words in the question, then see if I can find them in the tables that I have.
When given an x value on a line graph, how do you find the y value?
I find the X value and trace my finger up until I intersect the GRAPH. Then I go left to find the answer on the Y axis.
What kind of data representation is this?
Map
What is a ratio, or a bar, that shows the relationship between distances on a map and the actual distances on the Earth's surface.
Scale
A type of graph that displays data as points connected by straight lines.
Line Graphs
How do you know what a question is asking for you to solve?
By highlighting the Action Word and underlining the Subject of the question.
When given a y value on a line graph, how do you find the x value?
I go to the Y value and trace my finger to the right until I intersect the GRAPH. Then I drop down to the X axis and read the answer off of the X axis.
What kind of data representation is this?
Data chart
What is a symbol on a map that shows us where North, East, South and West are. We cannot always assume North is to the top of the map and South is to the bottom of the map.
A diagram showing a process or system, showing the flow of information or materials.
Flow Charts/Cycle Diagrams
How do you know what help a question is giving you?
By circling hints in the question.
What is a direct relationship on a line graph?
When x goes up, y goes up.
What kind of chart is this?
Flow Chart
What are features such as borders, boundaries, or routes are represented by lines on a map.
Lines on a Map
A flat paper that shows us landforms, bodies of water, and human-made structures.
Maps
What is an inverse relationship on a line graph?
When x goes up, y goes down.
What type of relationship is this?
Direct Relationship
What are labels or text providing information about specific locations or features on a map.
How do you find the answer to a question using the x and y values on a table?
I find the X value, then I find the Y value on the graph/table. I use my two hands to trace the X column and Y row until they intersect. That is my answer.
What is a constant relationship on a line graph?
When x goes up, y stays the same OR when y goes up, x stays the same.
What kind of relationship is this?
Inverse Relationship
