Grandma Sue enters our town’s chili-making contest every year. The judges do not like this! It’s not that Grandma Sue’s chili isn’t good. It’s really delicious. It’s a secret recipe. My family loves it. We could eat a bowl every day, but maybe this is because we are used to it. This year, Grandma decided to enter her super-extra-hot chili. The judges got scared when they saw her sign: “Mrs. Moble’s Super-Extra-Hot Chili.” You see the rule is that the judges have to taste everyone’s chili. One judge nearly passed out from tasting Grandma’s “Extra-Hot Chili” last year. They begged her not to make this year’s chili hotter. But I think Grandma was mad that she didn’t take home the blue ribbon last time. On the day of the contest, we all gathered around Grandma and waited for the judges. Their faces were pale as they got to her table. Very slowly, the first judge lifted the spoon to his mouth. He started to sweat. Flames shot from his mouth. He dropped the spoon. You could tell the other judges didn’t want to taste it, but rules are rules. This year, Grandma Sue won the blue ribbon! After all of this time, the judges finally saw that her chili is the best in town! Or maybe they’re just scared of the recipe she might enter next year! 1. What was one effect of Grandma Sue making her "Super-Extra-Hot Chili"? A. She won the blue ribbon. B. She had a secret recipe. C. She entered a contest. D. She made her family eat it.
A. She won the blue ribbon.

Sumo is a Japanese tradition that has been around for thousands of years. Men wrestled as a way to pray for their rice fields. According to the earliest written Japanese legends, the first sumo match happened 2,000 years ago. To win, one wrestler must push the other wrestler from the ring. One can also win by making the other touch the ground with a body part other than the bottom of his feet. To do this, a wrestler must make the other lose his center of gravity or balance. However, players must follow the rules: no hair pulling, kicking, biting, or poking. They must wrestle by pushing, pulling, and throwing each other around. Most sumo wrestlers weigh between 200 and 600 pounds. The average weight is 400 pounds. The wrestlers' diets are made up of meaty stew, steak, raw fish, and other protein-packed foods, which helps them gain weight. Tommy was watching the shutters open and then shut, open and then shut. "Mom," he said, "May I go outside?" "Be careful," she said. "It's so windy today." The wind blew fiercely and snatched the newly recovered mail from Mrs. Pennington's hands and blew it even further into the house. "Oh my," she said again. Tommy ran outside and the door slammed shut. Outside, yellow, gold, and red leaves were leaping from swaying trees, landing on the roof, jumping off the roof, and then chasing one another down the street in tiny whirlwinds of merriment. Tommy watched in fascination. "If I was a leaf, I would fly clear across the world," Tommy thought and then ran out into the yard among the swirl of colors. Mrs. Pennington came to the front porch.
