Chelsie Hill always wanted to be a professional dancer. She danced throughout her childhood and went to dozens of dance competitions. She spent hours and hours after school perfecting her dance technique.
Only three months before Chelsie was going to graduate from high school, she got into a bad car accident. This accident left her paralyzed from the waist down.
Even for Chelsie Hill, dancing with only her upper body was a challenge. She had to learn how to move her body differently. Now, she teaches other young women to dance like her.
In 2019, 175 girls and women from 10 different countries met up to participate in an annual summer camp hosted by the Rollettes. They took dance classes and participated in talent shows. Many of the attendees spoke about finding a community where they could fully be themselves.
Hill says, “When I’m performing, I still feel the same rush that I used to. And when I go on stage, I don’t feel my chair. I don’t feel different. I’m just dancing, and that’s where my heart is.”

Today, humans do not have to worry about finding a live megalodon in the ocean. They have been extinct for millions of years. Megalodons most likely went extinct when the sea waters began cooling down. At the time, many large sea animals had adapted to warm tropical waters, including the megalodon. Megalodons could not adapt to living in cold water. Their habitats began to shrink. During this time period, many large mammals also began going extinct. Megalodons found less and less prey to eat and eventually died out. The megalodon most likely went extinct about 3.6 million years ago.
What caused them to go extinct?
Many years ago, a Haida girl named Orca Woman lived in a village near the sea. She loved everything about the ocean. She loved its sounds, its power, and its beauty. She yearned to be in the ocean all the time.

Megalodon teeth reveal a lot of information about the megalodon’s diet. The megalodon was a carnivore. In fact, it was at the top of the ocean food chain for more than 13 million years. The megalodon ate small sharks, fish, and even large whales. Scientists know megalodons ate whales because they have discovered megalodon teeth marks on whale bones. The megalodon would open its jaw very wide and chomp down on its prey. It would use its large teeth to tear the animal and eat it. Many scientists think this creature had the most powerful bite of any ocean predator.
Megladons are extinct. How do they know megalodon ate whales?
They have found whale bones with their teeth/bite marks in them
Erica thought the penguins were cute, even though they smelled pretty bad. They walked funny outside of the water, but were graceful when they were swimming. As the class watched the penguins move around the rocks, Erica noticed that some of them walked together. Others had little baby penguins by their side.
“How come some of those penguins stay together?” Erica asked Ms. Lane.
“Well, some kinds of penguins stay together for a long time,” said Ms. Lane. “They keep each other warm, and they protect their babies. King penguins live in colonies with hundreds of other penguins.”
