The speaker felt nervous in the beginning of the poem. She said "my heart is doing somersaults" and thought "as my team's only girl, I've got a lot to prove." After hitting the ball, she felt hopeful when she said, "I sense at last my star is on the move." She is starting to feel like she belongs.
