Where do you take your class in the event of a lock down?
Infants- nap area; Toddlers 1&2- near cubbies or bathroom; Toddler 3- classroom bathroom; EPS 1- bathroom; EPS 2- near food sink or changing table; EPS 3&4- by diaper changing table or classroom bathroom; PS1- near cubbies or in bathroom; PS 2- by far left window or bathroom; KPrep- near cubbies or classroom bathroom; Kindergarten- under teacher desk or classroom bathroom
What events dictate a need to shelter in place?
Emergency weather events (hurricane, tornado, earthquake)
How often do evacuation and lock down drills occur?
Evacuation occurs monthly and lock down twice a year
When should you evacuate?
Fire alarm sounds; smoke/toxic fumes are present; a walkie-talkie or all call alert goes out
What events lead to the need to lock down?
Security threat, an emergency, or a potentially violent situation
What should you do if you are outside when a shelter in place is issued?
Return to the building immediately
What steps should be taken when an earthquake occurs?
Gather children in safe space in room, away from objects which can fall, windows/glass, and doors. Assist children with "drop, cover, and hold" until shaking stops. Once shaking stops, evacuate the building to primary evacuation location

What is the method of announcing lock down for the center?
"Lock down" will be announced over the walkie talkie and speaker on the phone
Describe "drop, cover, and hold"
Drop: Kneel on the floor, away from windows
Cover: Elbows should cover the ears while hands cover the back of the neck; head should be pointed away from any glass
Hold: Remain in this position until shaking has stopped or the all clear is issued
What should you do if you are outside and an earthquake occurs?
Move away from buildings, playground structures, and any wires or lights. Practice "drop, cover, and hold" until shaking stops. Once shaking has stopped, move to primary evacuation location.
When exiting the classroom during an evacuation, do you do a name to face or headcount?
Perform a headcount when exiting and a name to face upon arrival at the primary evacuation site. If any child is missing, immediately notify center admin.
Besides keeping the children safe, what other responsibilities do teachers have during a lock down?
close the blinds and secure the door, name to face, sing and keep children calm
When a shelter in place is issued, what steps should be taken to keep children safe inside the classroom?
Keep the children away from windows and glass, staying to the center of the room. If necessary, kneel and cover head with hands
How many fire extinguishers are in the building and where are they located?
4; outside Infant 3, across from EPS 2, by the back admin office, and by PS2
What should staff do if they are on break or not in ratio when a fire alarm sounds?
Return to their classroom; if not in ratio then assist as directed by directors
What should you do if the center is placed in lock down while your class is outside?
Go to the nearest building and remain there until lock down is lifted; notify center of your location as soon as possible
What is the difference between a lock down and a shelter in place?
Lock down: remain in designated safe place until all clear is issued or further instruction are given; no one can enter or exit the facility except emergency personnel
Shelter in place: stay inside, keeping children away from windows
Where are the fire alarm pull stations located?
The pull station is in the electrical closet between Preschool 2 and Kindergarten
