Challenging them and looking for evidence for and against.
What are healthy coping skills?
Mindfulness, breathing, music, exercise, talking to friends, gratitude, etc.
What are social supports?
Family, friends, peer groups, etc.
What are mindfulness activities?
Grounding, body scan, being present in the moment (walking, eating, breathing, etc.)
Where?
Environments where one used to use could be triggering.
How can you be more self compassionate?
Talk to myself like I would a friend. Make it about the universal experience of being a human.
What are unhealthy coping skills?
Avoidance, substance use, dissociation, etc.
What are community/professional supports?
Community: the mission, salvation army, christian clearing house/associated charities, chopin hall, etc.
Professional: hospital, police, therapist, etc.
How does mindfulness help?
Helps with self-control, objectivity, affect tolerance, improved concentration and mental clarity, emotional intelligence and the ability to relate to others and one's self with kindness, acceptance and compassion.
