How did Red Ribbon Week start?
Red Ribbon Week started after the death of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who in 1985 was brutally murdered by drug traffickers in Mexico. After his death, people wanted to honor his sacrifice. Local celebration began in California where Camarena grew up - in 1985 and in 1988 the National Family Partnership started the first National Red Ribbon Week.

It is a tribute to Camarena during the initial local celebrations, high school friend Henry Lozano and Congressman Duncan Hunter, created the "Camarena Clubs" and the wearing of a red ribbon was to show their oppositions to drugs

What is one strategy you could use to make healthy choice in a situation where you are being peer pressured try or use drugs?

- Talk to the person who is pressuring you, let him/her/hey know how it makes you feel and tell the person to stop
- Give an excuse. It is okay to say "no" without needing to apologize or give explanation, but it might be easier to say no if you have a ready reason like - no, I have asthma, or no- I have a huge sport's game latter today
-Remove yourself from the situation or friend group. align yourself with friends that have similar values and beliefs
-Get support from a trusted adult such as a parent, teacher, or mentor. They can listen and help you with strategies
