What is Operational Control?

The exercise of authority over initiating, conducting, and terminating flights.

100

What does the change of an enroute require?

When prevailing visibility and RVR are both reported, which is controlling?

RVR

200

When is a takeoff alternate required?

A takeoff alternate is required when weather reported at the departure airport is below landing minimums at ETD.

200

Where does the responsibility of operational control reside?

The certificate holder is responsible for operational control and resides with the Director of Operations , the Aircraft Dispatcher, pilot in command (PIC) are jointly responsible and share duties to conduct the flight safely and in accordance with regulations and OpSpecs.

200

List the minimum fuel requirements for a domestic flight.

To fly to the airport to which dispatched.

To fly to and land at the most distant alternate airport, (if needed).

To fly for 45 minutes at normal cruise speed fuel consumption.

200

What is the definition of a high minimum captain?

200

What is the definition of extended overwater operations?

50 nautical miles from the nearest shoreline.

300

For a 2-engine aircraft, what are the conditions and limitations from departure to a takeoff alternate?

The alternate airport must not be more than 1 hour’s flight time from the departure airport based on normal cruise, in still air, with 1 engine inoperative.

300

What are Operation Specifications (OpSpecs)?

The authorizations, limitations, deviations, weight and balance and exemptions.

300

What other factors must a dispatcher consider when computing fuel requirements for a domestic flight?

Wind and other weather conditions forecast .

Anticipated traffic delays.

One instrument approach and possible missed approach at destination.

Any other conditions that may delay landing of the aircraft.

300

List the items required to on or attached to a dispatch release.

Explain Dispatcher Operating Familiarization Training (Jumpseat Familiarization).

Within the preceding 12 calendar months, a dispatcher must complete at least 5 hours observation from the flight deck in one type in each group to be dispatched. The time may be reduced by 1 hour for each additional takeoff and landing, to minimum of 2 1/2 hours. This can be done in a simulator by observation of 5 hours but can not be reduced.

500

What is required to legally list an alternate on the dispatch release?

No person may list an airport as an alternate in the dispatch release unless the weather will be at or above alternate weather minimums at the ETA at the alternate.

Explain Driftdown Method 1 and Method 2

Method 1 Plan at a weight that from V1 to destination with one engine inop provides at least 1,000' obstacle clearance within 5 statute miles either side of the intended track and positive stope at 1,500' above the destination.

Method 2 From top of climb, with one engine inop provides at least 2,000' obstacle clearance within 5 statute miles either side of the intended track and positive stope at 1,500' above the alternate airport.
