a parable is a story that has one meaning on the surface, but has an intended meaning about the nature of God and man. Jesus used parables to get his disciples to think and understand more about God. he uses natural imagery like farming to have these lessons apply more easily to people

sambucy was one of the priests in amiens that was in charge of congregations. he did not treat julie fairly. he wanted the congregation to only stay in amiens, and wanted them to only teach boys. he eventually conspired against her and intercepted her mail.

Prophets were killed because they spoke against many of the people's current actions, such as worshiping idols or other gods. Prophets spoke about the coming of a messiah, which went against current teaching.

prodigal son - one son leaves, screws up, and returns to his father. other son stays. prodigal son, or lost son, is greeted with open arms. other son is jealous. supposed to be about God's grace and forgiveness. regardless of what you have done, God forgives and wants you to return to Him.

her lease was taken away from her and the sisters in amiens. they were forced to find a new place to form the congregation, and the bishop of namur welcomed them to start it.

pilate was the provincial governor in jerusalem. He was in charge of killing prisoners or letting them go. he let the crowd decide who to kill. they picked another criminal , barrabas, to let go. they opted to kill Jesus and have him crucified. Pilate tried to keep the crowds under control , and this was a way to do that.

can't serve two masters - you will either be devoted to god or devoted to money. mammon is a pagan god of wealth and idolatry, can't focus solely on material goods and wealth and also be a christian. these two things are not compatible. Jesus does not judge based on how much money you have.
