Christian

The bodily raising of Jesus Christ from the dead on the third day after he died on the Cross.
Resurrection

The act of limiting the amount we eat for a period of time to express sorrow for sin and to make ourselves more aware of our reliance on God.
Fasting
The public prayer of the Church that celebrates the wonderful things God has done for us in Jesus Christ.

A person who knows, loves, and follows Jesus Christ and lives according to his teaching.
Disciple
To show respect in church, especially in front of the tabernacle, by touching a knee to the floor.
Genuflect
The celebration throughout the year of the events in the lives of Jesus, Mary, and the saints.

The longest liturgical season of the Church year. It is divided into two periods - the first after the Christmas season and the second after Pentecost.
Ordinary Time
The call each of us has in life to be the person God wants us to be.
Vocation
The members of the Church in a particular area, gathered under the leadership of a bishop.
Diocese
An explanation of God's Word by a priest or deacon at Mass. This deepens our understanding of the Word of God that we hear in the Scripture readings at Mass.
Homily
A prayer asking God to help another person or a group of people. We can also for the intercession of Mary and the saints.
Intercession
An action we perform to show we are turning away from sin so that we can live as God wants us to live.
Penance
The sacred box or container in which the Blessed Sacrament is kept so that Holy Communion can be taken to those who are sick.
