True or False: I am expected to carry my Chromebook with two hands.

True!

100

True or False: I can play mindless games on my Chromebook.

False.  We are recommitting to this expectation this year.

100

True or False: If you would be uncomfortable saying it to a friend in person, you shouldn't type it online either.

100% true.  This is a good filter for both students and adults to use when writing emails, chatting online, etc. both at home and in school.

100

Name three pieces of personal information that you should NOT share online.

Last name, address, phone number, school, etc.

100

This is one piece of information that you shouldn't even share with your best friends.

Your computer password!

200

True or False: It is my responsibility to make sure my Chromebook is plugged in and charged.

True!

On Fridays, we will make sure everyone's CB is in the cart and plugged in.  Throughout the week, it is your responsibility to pay attention and charge it as needed.

200

Can you name this math game that students love that we can no longer play the public version of?

Prodigy!

You can play the in-house/in-school mode, but NOT the home mode that has you interacting with other people.

200

Your friend's computer's R and T keys have been sticking.  They know you are done with the writing task, so they ask if they can just borrow your computer to finish theirs.  What should you do/say?

Ask the teacher!  Your teacher would be happy to help problem solve and would not want you to get in trouble for using someone else's computer without teacher permission.

200

This is what you should do if something unexpected or inappropriate comes across your screen accidentally.

QUIETLY tell the teacher in the room, either before or after closing the window/picture/etc. in question.

You know you had your CB yesterday morning during writing, but now it's the next day, it's time for library, and you can't find it in the cart or your desk.  Should you:

A) Ask Ms. Meyer if you can quickly check Mrs. Rogstad's space to see if you left it there yesterday in math.

B) Loudly accuse three of your classmates of taking it.

C) Tell no one and cross your fingers that Mr. Green doesn't have a computer activity planned.

A!!!!

True or False: I can have food out while using my Chromebook.

False!  We are going to recommit to this expectation this year.

300

True or False: You will lose computer privileges if you are playing games that aren't on Ms. Meyer's approved list.

True.  From the very start, we will expect you to respect the boundaries.  In fact, you signed an Acceptable Use policy that you would only use your school computer for school work and activities.

300

You notice that every Friday, you plug your computer in first, with your color coded cord, yet Monday mornings, your computer is unplugged and uncharged.  You suspect that Fred is trying to be funny by mixing up the cords.  What could/should you do?

1. Speak to Fred to gently let him know you're pretty sure it's him, and explain that it's not actually funny because then you can't get your work done and it's embarrassing to get called out for not charging your computer.

2. Let Ms. Meyer know so she can step in if it continues, and can keep an eye on Fred and the computer cart.

300

True or False: my teachers, principals and tech team can see what I have done on my computer.

True!  While we don't spend our precious time going through your computer history, we can see all of it if there is a need.  Nothing you (or your teachers on their computers!) do is private when you are on a school device.

300

This is the one item that is required to be on your computer at all times.

A name label!  If yours falls off, ask for clear tape or ask if Ms. Meyer can make a new one.

400

True or False: I can put stickers on my Chromebook.

False.  It costs the tech team extra time and money when we return computers with stickers on them.  Find other places for your stickers!

400

This is the math site we use in 6th grade that isn't quite gamified, but still has some game elements.

IXL!

400

BONUS!

Free points if you can name 3 fonts.

400

Name 2 good uses of school email, and 2 unacceptable uses of school email.

Good: emailing teachers past and present, emailing a friend from another class to say hi (on your own time,) sharing links and resources for a group research project, etc.

Unacceptable: emailing people when it's work time, emailing anything unkind or that's just nonsense, sending random memes, sending emails to large groups of people that aren't about school, etc.

400

True or False: Your computer has a serial number so we know which CB is assigned to you.

True!  And Ms. Meyer knows a way to check them when you turn them on.  If you suspect your CB has gotten switched or mixed up with someone else's, let Ms. Meyer know!

500

True or False: I am responsible and accountable for the cost of my Chromebook if it breaks.

True AND False!  You are responsible and accountable for avoidable incidents - for instance if you dropped it because you were carrying too many things, it is on you.  However, if it is a genuine accident, like someone comes around a corner and bumps into you unexpectedly, then sometimes we figure it out without asking you to pay for it.

500

True or False: You can submit game ideas to Ms. Meyer and she will check them out and approve or disapprove them.

True!  We can have some things on the list for when other work is done that relate to the computer, but they need to be on Ms. Meyer's list and need to be accessed through our Google Classroom.

500

You know you aren't supposed to be emailing while it's writing time, but your best friend Suzy keeps sending you adorable and hilarious cat memes and it's hard to ignore them!  What should you do?

1. Quietly let Suzy know that as much as you love cats and cat memes, you don't want to get in trouble and lose your computer, and you don't want her to lose hers either.

2. If she doesn't stop, let Ms. Meyer know - if you don't speak up, it comes across that you didn't really mind and weren't taking responsibility for being focused.

True or False: I can download plug-ins/apps.

False: The tech team are the only people who should be downloading anything.  Even if the computer doesn't stop you from doing it, you should not be trying to download things.

500
True or False: If you continually struggle with following the expectations for computers, you will lose computer privileges and need to do work by hand for longer periods of time.

100% true.  Our relationship with technology is a tricky thing these days, and we need to hold ourselves to boundaries to keep our brains and bodies healthy.  If we are finding that you are struggling with this, we need to put stronger, clearer boundaries in place.
