What is an Independent Variable?
Data like IQ scores, Weight in pounds, or Test Grade Percentages.
What is quantitative data?
When a measurement or design is consistent in its applications, we call it this.
What is reliability?
Your group only drinks coffee but mine only drinks water. Then we compare.
What is independent measures?
You're weak. You want to say there's going to be a change but won't say how specifically.
What is a non-directional hypothesis? (Two-Tailed)
Uh oh! Your data was skewed thanks to any one of these things you didn't account for.
What is an Uncontrolled Variable?
Data like someone's personal stories or their individual opinions on political topics.
What is qualitative data?
When a study has been designed and performed to accurately test its aims as intended, we call it this.
What is validity?
This type of design is best when you want maximum internal validity and minimum uncontrolled variables.
What is a lab experiment?
You've been taking the same memory test for a week and just decide to quickly scribble information down to leave early.
What is a fatigue effect?
Measuring the moods of people taking a new SSRI medication would be an example of this.
What is a Dependent Variable?
Available either on paper or online, this is a self-report method often used by political campaigns or company reviews systems.
What is a questionnaire?
Its more ethical to tell the truth, but sometimes researchers use this in order to test a specific aim they don't want skewed.
What is deception?
With only a dozen participants, this method would have them all consume different experimental drugs weeks apart and then compare results against eachother.
What is a repeated measures design?
Before you're given money, you are expected to run a small scale test to work out any design flaws and test your measurements' reliability.
What is a pilot study?
Sometimes you can mess up your own study by poor design choices, which leads to this.
What is a confounding variable?
Type of interview in which there are predetermined questions that have limited answers and a specific order
What is a structured interview?
Making sure your study is similar to the real world conditions.
What is ecological validity?
I want to make sure income level doesn't skew people's social skill scores, so I make sure to only compare people in the same family tax brackets.
What is a matched pairs design?
I want to show how different age ranges tend to rate marvel movies using this visual data type.
What is a histogram?
You can't know if your variables have caused a change without comparison to this factor in an experiment.
What is a control condition?
This type of questioning allows for a limited number of responses that can be transcribed in to quantitative metrics.
What are close ended questions?
When you want to leave, the researcher can't stop you.
What is the Right to Withdraw?
Everyone reads the same script, sits in the same room, listens to the same music as their IV group, and takes the same test.
What is standardization?
I ask you your favorite cartoon and because you see all the spongebob stuff, that's what you tell me so I like you more.
What is social desirability bias?
